Shadow a Veterinarian
Shadow a Veterinarian tours are suitable for adults and for children 16 years old or older*. Spend five hours with Senior Veterinarian Dr. Jb Minter as he makes rounds behind-the-scenes at the NC Zoo. Ask all the questions you want and learn how veterinarians care for the medical woes of lions, bears, snakes and other animals. After rounds, head back to the vet hospital to enjoy a pizza lunch while chatting with the veterinary staff.
Tours are usually scheduled on Saturdays. Select your preferred tour from those available below; then, select a Saturday that best fits your schedule. If you cannot schedule a Saturday, then please specify three weekday dates that will work for you. The veterinarian will then choose a date from among those three. Please note that weekday tours generally offer less flexibility than tours conducted on Saturdays.
iVeterinarian is a special program for 5th and 6th graders who want to grow up to be veterinarians! iVeterinarian simulates a veterinary mystery that can only be solved by using clues found from microscopes, physical exams, lab tests, sonograms and other technologies. And, everyone gets a chance to shoot a dart gun!
This program is suitable for a parent and a child to explore together, and is strictly limited to 20 participants.

* Special Shadow a Veterinarian tours can be arranged for youngsters 7 years-old or older, but a child this young must be accompanied by a paying adult.
